And the winner is... Envoy! Congratulations to :iconspacefriend-t: on his winning entry and Envoy will now co-star in an upcoming issue of Argo 5!

But wait... there's more! We were so impressed with our other six finalist and wanted to thank them for their participation so the other six finalist will have a cameo appearance in that same issue! So congrats also to :iconnewplancomics: :iconzeartist: :iconsoviet-superwoman: :iconrafael0381: :iconmr-redx: and Nigel Flood!

Stay tuned to Argo Comics' deviantART page and our Facebook page for production updates on the issue and it's eventual inclusion to our online catalog: //indyplanet.com/store/index.php?manufacturers_id=4417 and digital download catalog: indyplanet.com/digital/index.p…

Again, we would like to express our thanks to all who entered, voted, or simply watched and enjoyed and look forward to bringing you more fun and excitement with Argo Comics!

And our 7th finalist is... Empress, Mother Earth's Handmaiden! Many thanks to all the participants and all the entries that made the voting round should be proud of doing so against such stiff competition.

Voting was hot and heavy for a while there but in the end The Empress squeeked out a win to become the 7th finalist. We'll now be turning it over to the judges to choose the overall winner from our 7 finalist. In no particular order our 7 finalist are:

1) The Fugitives
2) Morgalla
3) Soviet Superwoman
4) The Celtic Clan
5) Envoy
6) Sifao
7) Empress, Mother Earth's Handmaiden

Please review the previous Journal entries if you need a referesher on the details of the contest. Questions have surfaced about how many winners will be chosen. As previously stated there is one (we may have something cooked up for the finalist though). Unfortunately we can't advance the story of Argo 5 story monthly guest stars so it's a one shot deal as of right now. Holding another contest such as this will most likey be dependant on the sales of the issue (a dip in our numbers will indicate that readers are not interested in featured guest stars).

Another point that further clarification was asked about: Argo Comics will hold all rights to the issue of Argo 5 that the character(s) appears in but you retain all the rights and ownership of your character(s). Argo Comics will be allowed to reprint and promote the issue in any format but we would not use the character(s) in future stories without the expressed consent of the character's owner.

There was another point, mentioned in the topic thread, that I think is worth repeating here. Everyone has to keep in mind that the contest is about guest starring in an issue of Argo 5. That is to say, that it is not necesarily the best concept winning this contest but rather the best concept to guest star in Argo 5. Obviously, entries who had not read the Argo Comics stories were at a big disadvantage as they would not know if their characters would work well with Argo 5 or if their characters were too similar in personality or powers so as to be repetitive of Argo 5 members (or other characters who have already appeared in Sorority of Power or the Argo Comics Anthology). I would venture to say that practically all the entries were "comicbook quality" and it's the excecution that works or doesn't. Again, the last place entry may have the potential to become the most successful comic of the bunch but in the judges opinion, would not work well as a guest star in Argo 5.

Best of luck to all the finalist!

September 28, 2012 Update: Hey All, Judges scores are all in, so while I tabulate the scores, I thought I would share a bit of Facebook exclusive content on one judge's Round 1 scores as that was requested from a participant. Again, the contest is not for the best comicbook idea but rather for the best Argo 5 guest star. You can check that out here: www.facebook.com/pages/Argo-Co…

Thanks to all the participants for all the great entries and for all the great commentary from the DA community!

Thanks again to our participants as we now have our top 6 (there was a tie for 6th). The judging was a bit varied with most of the entries making different judges top 15. In no particular order our 6 finalist so far are:

1) The Fugitives
2) Morgalla
3) Soviet Superwoman
4) The Celtic Clan
5) Envoy
6) Sifao

With Rounds 1, 2  and the the judging portion of Round 3 complete, we now move into the voting stage where YOU decide our 7th finalist (as there was a tie for 6th). I have worked out the details for the top 7 to have a prize option. I'll contact the top 7 at the conclusion of the contest with details. Here's how this stage works. You have 2 ways to vote:

1) Voting in the Deviantart poll below on this page.

2) Facebook vote: I have posted the 10 Challenge Round Finalist Here: www.facebook.com/pages/Argo-Co… Simply like the Argo Comics Facebook Page (the tab to the right, under the Argo Comics banner), then hit like on the entry you are voting for. Votes that do not like the page will be disqualified. We'll be adding some exclusive contest extras on the FB page!

Deadline for voting: September 15, 2012. As with many entertainment media contest, you can show support by voting with both methods (no text voting for this one though).

After the voting we will head to Round 4 where the Argo Comics staff (seperate from the judging panel) will vote on the ultimate winner!

Please review the previous Journal entries if you need a referesher on the details of the contest. Questions have surfaced about how many winners will be chosen. Thanks to all the participants for all the great entries and for all the great commentary from the DA community!

With Rounds 1 and 2 complete we now move into the judging portion of Round 3 to be followed by the poll where YOU decide our 6th finalist. Here's a recap of the next two rounds.

Round 3) Fifteen finalist will be chosen by a panel of judges. A top 5 will be determined by the judges and the other 10 will go head to head in deviantART and Facebook polls to determine a 6th finalist. <Deadline for voting: September 15, 2012>

Round 4) The Argo Comics staff (seperate from the judging panel) will vote on the ultimate winner!

Please review the previous Journal entry if you need a referesher on the details of the contest. Questions have surfaced about how many winners will be chosen. Plenty of people on deviantART seem to have original characters and this contest is for you! Enter your character or super-team and one lucky winner will have their character(s) guest star in an upcoming issue of Argo 5. You will retain your copyright to the character(s) (actually enforce it as it will be in a dated print publication) and your name as the copyright holder will appear in the indicia on the inside front cover of the comic. You retain all rights and ownership of your character(s).

How does the contest work:

Round 1) Create or choose a previous deviantART entry in your gallery along with a description of personality and abilities of the character(s).

Round 2) Message us a link to your entry and we will create an entry in the "Get Published Contest" folder. <Deadline: August 1, 2012>
Feel free to campaign or have others do so in the thread of your entry as consumer opinion can possibly come into play for Round 3.

THIS IS NOT AN ART CONTEST. You are not required to draw your character or create new art. As long as it is your original character, it can be a past commission from another artist. Judges will be instructed to judge primarily on the character rather than the art as the artist will most likely not be drawing the issue.

We can not accept entries with story or plot ideas as we can not be held responsible for us publishing stories similar to your ideas in the future. One entry per Deviant ID so just pick the one you might feel best fits in with the characters and flavor of Argo 5 ( issues available here: indyplanet.com/store/index.php… ). Creator teams (maximum 3 people) can have one entry per each different deviantART ID. Again, entries will appear in the "Get Published Contest" folder  and not in the"Featured" gallery to avoid ownership confusion to viewers of the gallery.

By participating, entries acknowledge the following: The creative team and production of this issue of Argo 5 will be determined by Argo Comics.  Winning creator(s) can apply to take part in the creation of the issue (writers, artists, colorist) but editorial control remains with Argo Comics. Argo Comics retains all rights to the issue and to reprint the issue in trade, digital and all formats. The issue will be available through Indy Planet and the winner will recieve 5 complimentary copies. No further remuneration is required from participation in the contest and in publication.

We look forward to seeing your masked men of mystery, your wonderous women, your amazing heroes, your team-supremes, your... creations!

I was interviewed on the Zone 4 podcast. I had a great time with Ron, Brant, and Gordon shooting the breeze about Argo Comics and creating comics in general. Gave some love to some indie comics and creators (as no one needs me to tell them to go out and buy the new 52... they're doing that already). Here's the link to listen:

I'm also gearing up for the NY Comic Marketplace which will feature among it's guest, Stan Lee! It's on March 31 at the Pennsylvania Hotel from 10am to 6pm. Please come down (or up as the case may be) and stop by the Argo Comics table to say hi.

Best,
